About the Dash!
LONDON 2012 TO TOKYO 2020
Back in 2012, Laura Brown of Durham SSP had the foresight to capture the excitement of the London Olympics with the launch of a primary school urban athletics event in Durham. An event that we all now know and love as the Durham Dash!
At the start we just thought of London 2012, but with the excitement of the children and the enthusiasm of the primary schools the Dash has ‘run’ to its 3rd Olympics!
Sadly in 2020 we, like Tokyo, cancelled our festival due to the C19 pandemic.
In 2021 we look forward to sharing the new enthusiasm and excitement for the summer Olympics and to reach out across the globe and allow Tokyo and its people to be our role models for another year of sport.
The aim of the Dash! is to always provide an athletics event for our school children within a unique County Durham setting, and at the same time promote sport and physical activity as a positive lifestyle choice for children and their families.
Through the many media platforms now available to us, the Dash! enjoys the opportunity of showcasing our young Olympians as torch bearers for a healthier and brighter future. It is important that we continue to provide and maintain aspirational platforms for individuals to showcase their talents and build community engagement as well as promote the role that schools and the School Sport Partnership play in encouraging our next generation of leaders and citizens through school sport and PE.
Durham Dash, Sedgefield Dash, and (the newly added) Bishop Auckland Dash will be running during the third week of June 2021.
2019 Storms did not dampen enthusiasm to Dash!
Met Office’s Yellow Weather Warnings put a stop to the Dash Series in June but the SSP’s were able to get to the start line in July for ‘Dash! Take 2’
Dash! Series 2019 saw 118 teams representing 48 schools
Warrens Sedgefield Dash! saw 336 athletes take part in running, jumping and throwing events
Warrens Durham Dash! – 776 Boys & Girls Dashed and Jumped to success.
We were seen from afar with superb Media Value and Reach numbers – traditional and digital media valued at £40k spend, reaching 2.5 million through the good work of Right Lines Communications and Smooth Radio.
