Over 1,100 schoolchildren have enjoyed evenings of athletics in this year’s Warrens Durham Dash! and Sedgefield Dash! finals.  Events at Beamish Museum and in Hardwick Park saw youngsters run, jump and throw in the finale of an initiative that has involved nearly 50 schools throughout County Durham.

The Dash! initiative is designed to encourage young people in the county to participate in sport and is delivered by Durham & Chester-le-Street School Sport Partnership (DCLSSSP) and Sedgefield School Sports Partnership (SSSP).

Long-established North East food recycling company the Warrens Group sponsored the Dash! series for the second year, as part of its ongoing work in the region’s schools, to improve engagement and knowledge about sustainable waste management.  Other key supporters included Ramside Hall Hotel, Hardwick Hall Hotel, Karbon Homes, Taylor Shaw, Durham AAP, Police and Crime Commissioner for Durham Constabulary Ron Hogg, Story Homes and Smooth Radio.

Mark Blackbourne, Dash! event director, comments: “The Warrens Durham and Sedgefield Dash! events have been brilliantly supported by schools throughout the county.  The children were clearly really relishing the opportunity to compete and we hope that events like this will set them up for a lifelong love of participation in sport.  Beamish Museum was an excellent new venue and it was great to return to Hardwick Park again too.  Of course, the Dash! is only possible because of the work done by the school sport partnerships, and the support of our sponsors – many thanks to all of them.”
