About Sedgefield Dash!
2016 saw Sedgefield join the Dash Series setting up their athletics arena within the outstanding historic country parkland of Hardwick Park and Hardwick Hall Hotel.
The Dash! includes track and field events for Year 3-6 boys and girls; 300m Dash along Hardwick Park’s Grand Terrace while age specific throwing and jumping events take place on the lawns of Hardwick Hotel in front of hundreds of supporting families and friends.
Additional activities for participants and spectators include a community village of health and wellbeing activity, such as Judo and Gymnastic displays whilst organisations join up to promote healthy eating choices. Durham Constabulary (Neighbourhood Team) and County Durham Fire and Rescue demonstrate their community engagement work within the community village.
2000 school children linked to the Go Well (Trading name of Sedgefield SSP) school sport partnership area – Sedgefield, Spennymoor, Ferryhill, Trimdon, Fishburn, Newton Aycliffe, Shildon, Coundon, Chilton and villages in between – come together in the annual athletics festival with pre qualifying events giving children every opportunity of being part of the Dash family.
Family, friends and siblings cheered on the qualifying athletes that represented the 20 plus school teams.
Support from County Durham Community Foundation/E-on enabled the Sedgefield SSP to deliver a Dash Legacy across the 2016/17 academic year connecting Dash 2016 to Dash 2017 and proudly this legacy enabled one Sport and PE Apprentice to secure full time employment in 2017 with the Sedgefield School Sport Partnership !
School Rep Testimonial: ‘It felt like a ‘proper’ athletics event. The children loved the commentary and being interviewed as they crossed the line. They enjoyed all of the other activities, which were great to keep them occupied whilst they were waiting. The atmosphere was fantastic!’
