An initiative that helps primary schoolchildren to participate in sport will move to a new venue in County Durham this year.
The 2019 Durham Dash! and Sedgefield Dash! series will see thousands of 7-11 year olds run, jump and throw in a series of events over the coming months. The Dash! will culminate in finals on 11 and 12 June. For the first time, the Durham Dash! final will be held at Beamish Museum, with over 800 children participating on the evening of Wednesday 12 June.
Now in its ninth year, the Dash! has grown into one of the region’s biggest youth sports initiatives and in 2018, over 1,200 young people from 60 County Durham schools participated in the Dash! finals. Dash! events are delivered by Durham & Chester-le-Street School Sport Partnership (DCSSP) and Sedgefield School Sport Partnership (SSSP) and sponsored the Warrens Group, with support from many local companies.
Children from Beamish Primary School and sponsors Adam and Antony Warren of Warrens Group visited Beamish Museum in March for a training session and a preview of the new Dash! finals venue, meeting museum staff and enjoying an insight into how schools approached sport and physical education in the Edwardian era.
